Message from Superintendent Montini

Dear Members of the NPS Community,

Today, hateful, discriminatory, and racist comments were released to social media by an alleged member of our student body. The superintendent’s office is aware of the situation and an investigation is currently underway.

The racist posts conflict with every value of the Naugatuck Public Schools and we condemn each and every word. In Naugatuck, we have no tolerance for any manifestation of hate or racism. At the same time, we recognize that having no tolerance is not enough and that education is the key.

As a school community, we are committed to addressing issues of social justice and racism within our community. Our highest priority is, and will always be, making sure that students feel safe in our schools. We value the uniqueness of each and every member of our community and believe that our diversity is both a strength and a gift.

We realize the trauma and profound impact the posts may have on our students and community. As our students head back to school on Monday, our teachers, counselors, and staff will be there to support them.

As we support our students, particularly our students of color, in the healing process following this incident, please know that our focus on equity and ensuring ALL students become the Vision of Graduate is our mission today, tomorrow, and everyday thereafter.

In partnership,

Christopher Montini
Superintendent
Naugatuck Public Schools
