NAUGATUCK BOE HOSTS PUBLIC FORUM TO EXAMINE
CHANGING SCHOOL HOURS ON NOV. 2 AT 6:30 PM

NAUGATUCK, Conn.; Oct. 18, 2016 — The Naugatuck Board of Education has created a special committee to examine the possibility of starting school later for middle and high school students, which may impact the start times for all schools. The School Start Time Committee will host a public forum to provide interested community members with the results of its study. The forum will be held Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at 6:30pm at Naugatuck High School’s Davis Auditorium.

Parents, students, teachers, administrators, and interested community members are encouraged to attend. The forum will include a presentation and a question and answer period. The committee will also survey students and parents in mid-November.

Benefits of a later start time include: increased total amount of sleep; increased attendance; decreased tardiness; increased graduation rates; improved grades and test scores; fewer suspensions and reduced discipline; increased attention in class; better cognitive functioning; decreased rates of car accidents; less substance abuse; and fewer signs of depression.

Possible School Hours:

  • Intermediate Schools: 8am-2:30pm
  • Middle and High Schools: 8:30am-3pm
  • Elementary Schools: 9am-3:30pm
